spectacular. Incredible. Breathtaking. There is no adjective sublime enough to describe the
sensations at the end of the last stage of the caravan route before the desert.
The track plunges through the Djebel Rnaouar mountains then, winding along a strip of
intensively cultivated land, it cornes out to face a landscape of hallucinatory colours.
The Draa Valley gradually opens out to reveal red earth casbahs, villages imbued with mystery.
The Rmazraou oasis, on the other si de of the Draa, is the perfect spot to rest before ta king
the path over the dunes. Just a few more steps, and you suddenly have the strong impression
you are at the end of the world. Set in an increasingly sandy soil, a worn sign says "Timbuktu,
52 days by camel".
